Camp Atterbury-Muscatatuck
This base is a combination of two facilities in southern Indiana with distinct histories that have become intertwined over the years. The base was established in 1942 to train its quickly expanding force after World War II. It served as a vital training center for infantry, armor, and artillery units as well as housed a prisoner-of-war camp that held captured Italians and Germans. After the war, the base’s activity decreased significantly until it was handed over to the Indiana National Guard in 1969.

Fort Wayne Air National Guard Base
The base shares an edge with the Fort Wayne International Airport and has a history of being an integral part of the state’s air defense capabilities. Like many bases, it was established during World War II and initially named Baer Field, after local aviation pioneer William A. Baer. The base was closed in 1945, but in 1954 the 122nd Fighter-Bomber Wing took it over.

USCG Station Michigan City
Station Michigan City is located at the mouth of Trail Creek and is an important part of the safety chain that covers Lake Michigan. It’s establishment in 1889 by the U.S. Life Saving Service was due to the growing need for search and rescue capabilities on the Great Lakes. Today, it serves as a multi-mission unit, responsible for a wide range of Coast Guard activities such as search and rescue, law enforcement, homeland security, and marine environmental protection.
