The state of Minnesota’s military history dates back to the 1820s when Fort Snelling served as an important frontier outpost to protect settlers in the area and maintain peace with Native American tribes. The state is now home to one military installation:

Camp Ripley

Camp Ripley is the state’s primary military training center for its National Guard. It was established in 1929 due to the need for a more suitable training site for the National Guard. Its central location provided enough space for maneuvers and exercises, while also being accessible from major population centers in the state.
