Alabama is home to over 300,000 veterans, around 5,000 active-duty service members, and over 13,000 National Guard and reserve members. The bases throughout the state support over 20,000 jobs and contribute over $2.5 billion to the local economy. The state is home to five military installations:

 

  • Camp Robinson
  • Ebbing Air National Guard Base
  • Fort Chaffee
  • Fort Greely
  • Little Rock Air Force Base
  • Pine Bluff Arsenal

Camp Robinson

Camp Robison is a major training center for the United states Army, and is used to train soldiers in a variety of skills, including infantry tactics, aviation operations, and logistics support. The base is home to the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, the 77th Combat Aviation Brigade, and the 87th Troop Command.

Ebbing Air National Guard Base

Located in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Ebbing Air National Guard Base is home to the 188th Wing Air National Guard Recruiting office. They are responsible for processing new recruits into the Arkansas Air National Guard, providing information to potential recruits, answering questions about the recruiting process, and assisting with completing the necessary paperwork to join the Air National Guard.

Fort Chaffee

Fort Chaffee is a very large installation, covering over 64,000 acres, and is home to a variety of training facilities, including an airfield, firing ranges, live fire training areas, urban training areas, and CBRN training facilities. It was established in 1941 as a training center for the Army Reserve, and was later used to train soldiers for World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

Little Rock Air Force Base

Little Rock Air Force Base is located in Jacksonville, Arkansas and is the largest military installation in the state. It was initially established in 1942 as a training base for the Army Air Corps and was later used to train pilots for World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. This base is a major strategic hub for the Air Force, and is home to a variety of aircraft including the C-130 Hercules, C-17 Globemaster, and KC-135 Stratotanker.

Pine Bluff Arsenal

Pine Bluff Arsenal covers over 13,000 acres, and is a major producer of munitions and other military products such as smoke generators, riot control agents, and pyrotechnic devices. It was established in 1941 to produce munitions for World War II and has continued to produce munitions for all major US conflicts.
